Her Perfect Mate by Paige Tyler...Review by Kathy

Blurb-

When Special Forces Captain Landon Donovan is picked for an assignment with the Department of Covert Affairs, he’s stunned to find his new partner is a beautiful woman who looks like she couldn’t hurt a fly, much less take down a terrorist.

Ivy Halliwell isn’t your average covert op. Her feline DNA means she can literally bring out the claws when things get dicey. She isn’t thrilled to be paired with yet another military grunt, but Landon is different. He doesn’t think she’s a freak and he’s smokin’ hot.

Soon they find themselves facing a threat even greater than anyone imagines...and an animal magnetism impossible to ignore.

This is the first book in the new X Ops series. This story is focusing on Landon and Ivy but you meet some great characters for the series. When you first meet Ivy she is on her second partner who does not like her at all. Having to deal with certain prejudices from him, she holds her tongue and ignores her instincts. This proves to be a horrible thing. Ivy had a previous partner who abused her trust and that has made her stop trusting her instincts. She needs to use all her skills, not just her human ones. Will she be able to move past these partners?

Landon is a special forces guy who is ripped out of his current assignment and told to report to Washington DC.He assumes he will be working with the military but, learns that is not the case. He is a kick ass and take names later kind of guy. He is then told he will be a part of a new partnership and is now working for the DCO (Department of Covert Affairs). He is not told that it will be a woman.  He is totally confused as to why he was pulled but, is used to following orders.....

"Landon, meet Ivy Halliwell, your new partner,"Kendra said. "Ivy, Captain Landon Donovan, Special Forces."
They were going to have to pick his jaw up off the floor because Landon was damn sure that's where it was after hearing that announcement. no way this walking wet dream was his partner. She looked like she couldn't hurt a fly, much less do any kind of covert ops. They had to be messing with him.
"Your first mission is to put her on her ass,"Todd said.
he'd had some big what -the-hell moments in his life--most of them within the past twenty-four hours--but this had to be the biggest.
Landon narrowed his eyes at the man. "Excuse me?"
"Take her down."
Was this guy serious? This was his new partner and they wanted him to kick her ass?Ivy was about half his size and looked like she should be walking down a fashion runway somewhere, not trading blows with a trained killer.
Landon shook his head. "Forget it. I'm not going to take a swing at her, much less put her on her ass." he folded his arms across his chest."You want entertainment" Maybe I should put you on your ass."

When I saw this book I honestly thought oh, another shifter book. I was completely surprised. It wasn't just about shifters, that was just an added element to a really great storyline. They are trying to find out why biologist are being kidnapped and killed. They have to learn to trust each other to have their backs in dangerous and deadly situations. They also have people that are trying to break up their partnership with rumors and innuendo. They have to deal with people's prejudices and their own. I loved that the heroine can kick ass even without using her shifter abilities. I loved that the hero was willing to accept her for who and what she is, and fully trust  his partner with her skills. I really enjoyed this book. It was a great mix of suspense, romance, the paranormal and a kick ass hero and heroine. I will be reading the other books in the series. I am especially looking forward to Angelo's book and hopefully one with Kendra as well. I am so glad that I found this book. It had me on the seat of my chair, I was talking to my E Reader and even cussed at the author a couple of times... that's always a sign of a great book in my head. I am giving this 4.5 Clocks. Anxiously awaiting the rest of the series...
