The Silver Chain by Primula Bond.... Review by Dawn

~blurb~
Bound by passion, she was powerless to resist.
The Silver Chain is the first in the sexy, passionate and addictive Unbreakable Trilogy by Primula Bond.
One dark evening in London, photographer Serena Folkes is indulging her impulsive side with a night-time shoot. But someone is watching her – mysterious entrepreneur Gustav Levi. Serena doesn’t know it yet, but this handsome stranger will change her life forever…
Serena is fascinated by Gustav, the enigmatic owner of the Levi Gallery, and she soon feels an irresistible pull of attraction. The interest is mutual, and Gustav promises to launch Serena’s photographic career at his gallery, but only if Serena agrees to become his exclusive companion.
To mark their agreement, Gustav gives Serena a bracelet to wear at all times. Attached to it is a silver chain of which he is the keeper. With the chain Gustav controls Serena physically and symbolically – a sign that she is under his power.
As their passionate relationship intensifies, Gustav’s hold on the silver chain grows stronger. But will Gustav’s dark past tear them apart?

Sounds great right???? I was sent this as an ARC from the publisher and was excited to get into a new series...  Well, I was surprised by just how much I disliked it. I know, I know... that is not very nice, and actually it's not the story that is bad, its the writing.  It was beyond annoying with the need to describe every detail in the book. From the wind, the thunder, the windows, floors, the water, the blankets... I am not kidding people, every detail is described at length ... Everything but the sex and this is touted as a EROTIC book! I was very confused by this...
The whole Silver Chain, is a bracelet that he gets for Serena. It has a very long chain that he attaches to his watch. It was pretty interesting, Gustav would use it to bind her wrists... She has hidden, or not so much hidden fetish about spanking that has never been acted upon. He spanks her... Yep, that would be the most salacious part of this EROTIC book.

I will say this is written by a British author, and she uses a lot of terms that fall flat with this American ... I have read many other Brits and they didn't bother me like this one did...
I am probably not going to finish this series.. this was book one .... I feel bad for not completing the collection, but I had such a hard time with this one...
If you have read book one and two please feel free to inform me if it does get better... I was so hoping this was going to be something I could sink my teeth into .... I am giving it a generous 2 clocks..

The G-Man Series by Andrea Smith...books 1-3... reviews by Dawn

Ok, first let me tell you that I am NOT going to do a full review until I have read the last book in the series, Night Moves. But I will tell you that I am seriously in LOVE with the G-Men!!!! Such amazing reads, I am loving them so much...
First we meet Eric "Slate" Slater and holy hell he is smokin' hot! He is mysterious, dark and oh so sexy. HOLY ALPHA MALE!
Sammie is in a loveless, secret filled marriage, that she has stayed in for way to long, for what she thought were the right reasons. One thing leads to another and Slate finds himself drawn to Diamond aka Sammie... The events that follow are full of mystery, intrigue and hot, hot lust! I LOVED THIS BOOK....

~blurb~

In the fall of 2010, thirty-five year old Samantha Dennison sending her only child off to college and is generally feeling F-R-U-M-P-Y. Her loveless marriage to 'the mannequin' has become intolerable; her daughter and best friend have both advised 'Sammie' to get a life of her own. Her husband has his own agenda which does not include her.

Sammie finally heeds their advice and starts with a Kickboxing/Pilates class; ultimately, learning to pole dance. From there, she is well on her way to finally carving out a secret life and identity all of her own. The thrill of the dance and sexuality she discovers within herself is a potent mixture. She gets a part-time job as a dancer in an Indianapolis Gentleman's Club called Jewels. She becomes the dancer known as 'Diamond' and very quickly catches the attention of a 'bad-boy' biker named 'Slate.'

Slate is the ultimate 'alpha' male; however there is a problem: he simply wants it to be about exclusive sex; Sammie wants and needs more from Slate. Sammie is certain that she has embarked on a dangerous, cougar-type relationship with the twenty-something biker and 'prospect' member of the notorious Outlaw Motorcycle Club. She soon finds out that she is totally out of her league with Slate and the dangerous people he associates with in Indianapolis during the summer of 2012. Something big is brewing in Indy; it ain't about race cars either.

I really didn't think I could love a G-Man more than I did Slate, well I was so, so wrong, HELLO TAZ!!!! Trace "Taz" Matthews is a walking wet dream, he is a HOT alpha male and not looking for anything serious.
Lindsey is broken, lonely and doesn't trust that easily. She is still a virgin and wants to get rid of her V-Card and she thinks she has found the perfect way and person to help her out...enter Taz!
Things don't always go as planned and when you add the attention of an fellow class mate, things get tense and drama filled fast.
I love that all our favorite players are back... and the intensity this story brings is AMAZING. I am not going to ruin it for you, but leave you with this... its heart wrenching, funny (Darcy is a riot) and sexy as hell.... I read this in 24 hours... I could not put it down!

It had been a year ago that 19-year-old Lindsey Dennison's life had taken an abrupt turn.
While away at Cornell for her freshman year at college, her parents' marriage had imploded. Lindsey learned the harsh truth about her father, and his involvement in criminal activity that was the focus of a major federal bust. Her father had slipped out of the country with his lover and cohort in crime, Susanne, shortly before the FBI arrest warrants could be served. He was now a fugitive from justice, deserting his only child. Lindsey was left trying to pick up the pieces of the life she now realized had been a house of secrets and lies for all of those years.

After her mother's marriage to Eric Slater (Slate), one of the special agents of the FBI involved in the federal investigation that occurred in their hometown of Indianapolis, Lindsey decides to start fresh at a new college close to where her mother, step-father and baby brother Bryce are now living outside of Washington, D.C.

Life is different now for Lindsey, but it is about to change even more. Her step-father's partner and best friend in the bureau, Trace "Taz" Matthews, is about to rock her world in more ways than one. Taz is nearly ten years older than Lindsey, but her initial interest in him is physical only. Lindsey has a problem that she is certain Taz can fix - but will he?

Despite their best efforts, Lindsey and Taz are tossed together by fate on more than one occasion, and this G-Man does not appreciate the distraction.

There are complications for Sammie and Slate along the way as well. A risky pregnancy for Sammie requires the family to pull together and Lindsey's life suddenly becomes increasingly complicated.

There is a budding romance on the horizon for Lindsey with a wealthy, Ivy-League type guy she meets at school by the name of Kyzer Stanfield. Kyzer's interest in Lindsey does not sit well for Taz. When Lindsey must leave school to return home to help her mother, Taz is relieved that she will be distanced from the pursuit of Kyzer. . . but not for long.

Things are never quite as they seem. Lindsey will learn a brutal lesson about trust, compassion and strength. Taz will learn lessons about love, intimacy and honor, and that sometimes doing the right thing has consequences.

There's a new Alpha in town . . . and he's a Brit!

Darcy Nicole Sheridan, is 22 years-old, beautiful, single, spirited, sexy and - spoiled. She knows that about herself. Raised by wealthy (and doting) parents as an only child, Darcy pretty much coasts through life until her heart is inexplicably broken by her G-Man, Darin. Darcy doesn't handle rejection well; she isn't used to it.

To ease the pain, Darcy flies to Belize over the Christmas holiday fully intending to wallow in self-pity and distance herself from D.C. and the pain that originated there. Her pity party is short-lived however, after observing a very handsome, very intriguing man on the beach with a beautiful blonde. The blond gets ditched and it's Darcy that becomes the focus of the smokin' hot, wealthy and somewhat mysterious 'E.J.'

Some very interesting things happen in Belize, but it doesn't end there. Once back in D.C., there are even more surprises in store for Darcy, including a new male roommate, her best friend Lindsey's wedding, and a surprise encounter with "E.J." that leaves Darcy confused in more ways than one! Shortly thereafter, surprising changes are in store for Darcy's career, love life and even a repentant Darin shows up in the mix.

Readers will get a bonus glimpse of Taz and Lindsey's HEA and perhaps even see some loose ends tied up with respect to the Rat Bastard!

As always, this latest release of the "G-Man Series" will keep you on the edge of your seat through the laughter, tears, angst, drama and mystery. Easton is sure to be a favorite 'G-Man' of many in this newest release of the series! He's an alpha like no other . . .

Sliding Home by Pina Bruni.....Review by Kathy

Blurb-
Their relationship begins on the playground at the tender age of seven. Love grows from an innocent friendship for Terri Marino and her pal Vinny Coletti. A mutual crush naturally matures into a loving bond. One is drawn to the other until a union is an unstoppable force.

Time passes and happiness is in abundance for the young couple. Their adolescent years are filled with fun and adventure as they explore their boundaries. As the early stages of adulthood creep up, both have similar ideas for their future together, although not necessarily in the same time frame. While one is in a rush to get there, the other is searching for direction.

In a whirlwind of immature and insecure decision making, a very young Terri finds herself far from home with a picture of life that looks nothing like her dreams of only a short time earlier. Vinny too is nowhere near his dreams, but he hasn’t much of a choice. His dreams up and left with little explanation. Life goes on as each one learns to live without the other while silently hoping for the best.

So what happens when your happily ever after isn't what or when you expect it. Can you ever really go home? Can you go back to that one special person that was "meant to be" no matter what you have done in the past? That's what I was asking myself while reading the blurb. Then I decided to just try the sample to see if it was something I could get into......

I rang the bell and waited. No one answered. I tried again and turned the knob. It was locked. Her car was parked out front. She couldn’t have gone far. I gave thought to dragging my butt uptown to Heavenly Hair, my friend Annie’s salon, before Mrs. Dempsky came to mind. Mom’s next-door neighbor held a spare key for emergencies. I moseyed over and explained my predicament. After unlocking the door, I returned the key with my gratitude. Bringing my bags into the foyer, I kicked off my sneakers and collapsed onto the couch. My eyelids lowered and sleep came automatically. Within minutes, I heard voices.
“No, no, stop that Harry! I’ve tried it and I didn’t much care for it,” she said giggling.
“Oh come now Jo, you’ve never tried it with me. Give me a chance. Let’s get you up on that kitchen counter,” he said eagerly.
My eyelids lifted as I tried to focus. Where was I ... and who the hell was Harry? I raised my head to see a woman backing out of the hall that led to the bedrooms. She wore high heels, fishnet stockings, and a black teddy. Her hair was a golden brown and styled in a bob. For several seconds my mind was dormant, but in the blink of an eye, I comprehended the embarrassing situation I unknowingly stumbled upon. I jerked straight up into a seated position. My mother!
Suddenly a man came into view. He was short and pudgy with graying hair and not much of it. He hadn’t a stitch of clothing on and was extremely excited. Harry, I presumed.
A high-pitched screeching sound came from my voice box right before I cried out, “Mom!”

Yes, the second page into the book and I was already cracking up. I mean can you imagine catching your mother...... OH MY GOD....

Terri has been gone from home for 7 years. She has only come home occasionally or for family emergencies. She didn't want to see Vinny. He was her one true love and she ran away from him and married someone else. How could she come home when Vinny was there? She needed to be home. Her best friend Annie finally talked her into coming back.

Vinny loved Terri. He wanted to be her one and only. Just not so soon. He needed to do some other things. Like join the Army. Do his duty. She promised she would wait...She lied...She married someone else. Now their friend Wild(Annie) had got her to come home. Can he convince her that he still loves and wants her. Can they finally have their happily ever after?

I cracked up over the things Wild did and said in this book. She stole some scenes for me. What can I say about Jo, Terri's mom.... Oh lord thankfully she isn't my mother... The things this lady was doing....Poor Terri...I mean really how many men can you meet that your mom is sleeping with...The things that Terri does to avoid seeing/hearing things..Had me laughing out loud and my husband asking me what was so funny... This is Pina's first book and I think it was excellent. She is writing the sequel "Sliding Home ll: Safe at Home". I am giving the book 4 clocks. Looking forward to book 2.

Last Hit byt Jessica Clare and Jen Frederick....review by Kathy

-Blurb-
Nikolai:

I have been a contract killer since I was a boy. For years I savored the fear caused by my name, the trembling at the sight of my tattoos. The stars on my knees, the marks on my fingers, the dagger in my neck, all bespoke of danger. If you saw my eyes, it was the last vision you’d have. I have ever been the hunter, never the prey. With her, I am the mark and I am ready to lie down and let her capture me. Opening my small scarred heart to her brings out my enemies. I will carry out one last hit, but if they hurt her, I will bring the world down around their ears.

Daisy:

I’ve been sheltered from the outside world all my life. Home-schooled and farm-raised, I’m so naive that my best friend calls me Pollyanna. I like to believe the best in people. Nikolai is part of this new life, and he’s terrifying to me. Not because his eyes are cold or my friend warns me away from him, but because he’s the only man that has ever seen the real me beneath the awkwardness. With him, my heart is at risk..and also, my life.

I read the blurb on this and was immediately intrigued. How does a contract killer fall in love. Does he share all of his secrets with her? Does he lie and say he is someone else? Can she ever really be sure of him? What about his past employers? Will they want her dead or as a tool to make him behave? So many questions from such an innocent little blurb.....

I watch her through my bathroom window. I've placed one of my four rented chairs in here for that express purpose. I tell myself it is not creepy, as the American girls would say, because I watch everyone. But really I watch only her.

I cannot see everything. I've never seen her nude. I've never seen inside her shower. Smartly there is no window there. But I can see her bedroom and her living room and beyond that, with my scope, her kitchen. I know her schedule. When she gets up in the morning, when she returns to her apartment. If she were a mark, I could've killed her a dozen times over by now and been in the wind.

She throws her bag onto her bed and then lies down next to it. It takes many muscles to smile, more to frown but only a few to pull the trigger. I peer down the scope and place my crosshairs over her forehead. Puff, dead

Nikolai is an amazing hit-man. he has been brought up killing. He is ridiculously good at it, and doesn't fail. He spends hours/days/weeks finding out everything about his targets to make sure that the job gets done. He has done this for so long and is so cautious until Daisy. She is quickly becoming his world. He was never supposed to talk to her.He was only going to watch her. He was supposed to be watching his mark, but Daisy was what he wanted. Then he talks to her and knows he has to have her. To protect her. To be there for her always. He would need to stop the killing.

Daisy is newly free from an oppressive childhood. Her past has so much pain in it. She finally was able to run away from it all. She had no clue that HE was watching her. That he wanted her. That he would do anything for her. Then she meets Nick and her world changes. Everything is different. Nick is loving. He wants to protect her and tells her she is beautiful. He helps her to see that you can overcome things. He is also the her first kiss, first everything. She is in love.

Then the unthinkable happens. They take her and her roommate. They want Nikolai. They tell her everything about the man she loves. What he has done. Who he has killed. Can he save her and her friend? For someone who has always worked alone, he must now trust others to help him get his Daisy and her roommate.

I absolutely loved this book. There was a point that I was screaming at my kindle. Yelling NO. I cried. My heart was breaking. I was shocked because I honestly didn't see certain things coming in this book. I was amazed by the writing. It had me by the throat and heart all the way through it. I even had to discuss it with my husband( To his utter disbelief. He didn't really need to check Facebook right?) I was going to add other quotes and then thought nope. You guys have got to read this book. There was some very steamy sex scenes and some great foreplay in a car.
I give this book 5 clocks. This is the start of a new series and the second book "Last Breath" will be released in 2014. I am so looking forward to that one. Has characters from the first book in it and you just know its going to be another grab you by the balls and heart all out, holy s@#t how did I not know this was going to happen book. Jessica Clare and Jen Frederick freaking rock.

Hot Mess (A Hostile Operations Team Novella) by Lynn Raye Harris...review by Dawn

~blurb~

English professor Dr. Georgeanne Hayes has a problem. Her star pupil, an Army sergeant who works in a Top Secret government program, is missing—and someone tried to push her in front of a train last night.

Sam “Knight Rider” McKnight is used to looking out for Georgie. When they were kids, she was just his best friend’s baby sister. But Georgie’s not a baby anymore and Sam is getting some very male—and very dirty—thoughts about the girl he knows he can never have.

When someone threatens Georgie’s life again, Sam will do anything necessary to keep her safe. Even if it means spending the next few days locked up in a remote house on Maryland’s Eastern Shore with her.

Sam might be used to denying himself what he wants, but he’s about to find out that being cooped up with Georgie will push him to the limit. And maybe beyond.

I am usually not a fan of "the novella" so I thought I would give this a try, since it was sent to me by a publisher. People, I really liked it!! It was a complete story, even if it was 33,000 words.

Sam and Georgeanne "Georgie" chemistry was awesome! Sam the best friend of her, very protective older brother and the guy she always lusted after. He never thought he was good enough for the country club life, her family led. He left and joined the military.

Georgie, did it all right, college, marriage to the perfect man, she was the princess of the family. Until she caught her perfect husband cheating on her. With her self-esteem taking a huge hit, Georgie dives into her career, as a college prof.

Sam and Georgie are thrown together when a student from her class has gone missing and the bad guys think she knows more than she is saying. Sam, takes it upon himself to be her protector... and that is where the fun begins....
Georgie, is not letting Sam look at her like a "little sister" anymore! She makes her intentions clear and Sam can't help but react to her and it gets HOTT!!!!!!

Really for a novella I felt this was a pretty good one! I did hate that the bad guys, just kind of went away. But this is a series so hopefully they will make an appearance in the next books!
I am giving Hot Mess 3.5 clocks...

Phenomenal X has an animalistic nature that even good girl Anna finds hard to resist.

One night forced to share a bed in a sold-out hotel, lines blur between them and they quickly learn that one lustful night changes everything and neither one of them will ever be the same.
An Excerpt:

His lips pull into a tight line, and I fully expect him to release me, but he doesn’t. Xavier’s grip stays firmly in place. “It’s fine if you don’t want to say what’s on your mind. I get that, but no more frowning for the rest of this trip, or I might be forced to find other ways to make you smile just to piss your boyfriend the fuck off.”
My mouth drops open and I can’t stop myself from asking, “What kind of ways?”
Damn my stupid curious brain. That just set him up for all kinds of more dirty talk.
He tries to fight back a smile, but it doesn’t work. It comes at me in full, glorious force. “More ways than that sweet brain of yours could ever imagine.” He leans into me and I tense while he still holds me in place. He’s close enough that if I pushed forward a couple inches our lips will meet in what I imagine would be an earth altering kiss. “I could do things to your body that most women only dream about while reading their dirty, porn romance novels, and I promise you’d fucking enjoy it.”
